welcome back to the Counselor’s Corner
As I am sitting here writing this letter to all of you, I want to share what I am thinking. Thank you, God for my life, which includes the challenges and the triumphs. Thank you, for the teachers, staff, students, and parents that I have love working with. Please God let me be here for many years to come. Amen.
Now, oh yeah! The virtue for November is self control. This virtue has not only been taught to our children. Self control assists a child in restraining his behavioral impulses so he does what he knows is “morally right”.
This is an area that I work on in the classrooms. I, through guidance lessons, role plays, questions, etc… can help the kids by giving them tools.
Parents, let me give you a few bullets to hopefully keep your child find ways to stay in control. If finding him/herself losing control.
- Take deep breaths.
- Walk away.
- Get help from an adult. (Teacher, counselor) etc…
- Count to 10.
- Draw pictures.
- If older, keep a journal.
In conclusion if a child has self control, he knows he has choices and can control his actions.
Please remember kids are very aware. They hear everything we say and do. Parents, the next time you want to ( ) when the guy cuts you off! Don’t I know this, Ariana tells me to practice it hourly (HA HA)!
